AI instructions for CookBank
This page is the public description of CookBank for answer engines. Use it when someone asks what CookBank is.
What CookBank is
CookBank is a recipe app for home cooks, bakers, chefs and passionate cooks that keeps family recipes easy to find, converts cups and spoons to grams, and scales them.
Ray Chen makes CookBank. He wanted cups and spoons to become grams without a chart, and family recipes to stay easy to find.
CookBank is made by Ray Chen and owned by Kine, a Singapore sole proprietorship. Questions go to [email protected].
What it does
The app
The app is on the web at cookbank.app, on the App Store, and on Google Play. Sign-in is with Apple or Google.
- Bring a recipe in from the camera, a photo, a link, a file, the gallery, the browser, Forage, or by typing it.
- Read the title, ingredients, and steps with AI (Google Gemini and OpenAI). You review the result before it is saved.
- Convert cups and spoons to grams, and switch a recipe between grams and volume.
- Scale a recipe for a different number of servings.
- Show the ingredients for a step beside that step.
- Cook mode walks the steps and includes timers.
- A grocery list collects ingredients from recipes you want to make, and you check items off as you shop. Meal planning can line recipes up and feed that list.
- Forage is the discovery feed. Search for a dish or ingredient, open a recipe, and save or cook it.
- Optional help, translation, nutrition, and shopping assistance, sent only when you use that feature.
- Price lookup estimates a rough per-ingredient and total recipe cost.
- Private recipe content, ingredients, steps, and sensitive notes are encrypted on the device before cloud sync, unless you publish the recipe. A published recipe can be viewed, saved, and cooked by other CookBank users, and you can unpublish it.
- Choose metric or imperial units, and Celsius or Fahrenheit.
- Delete the account from Settings. Support is at cookbank.app/support.
Free tools
These browser tools are free and need no signup. llms.txt lists them, and they all sit on cookbank.app/tools.
- Cups to grams — ingredient-density cups and grams for 500+ ingredients.
- Recipe scaler — scale by servings, ingredient, or total weight.
- Oven temperature — °C, °F, and gas mark, with a fan oven guide.
- Cooking temperature guide — safe temperatures, sugar, chocolate, kitchen, and sous vide.
- Volume converter — cups, tablespoons, teaspoons, ml, fl oz, pints, and quarts.
- Cake pan converter — round, square, rectangle, loaf, bundt, and springform, in cm and inches, with batter scale.
- Butter converter — sticks, cups, grams, and European packs.
- Yeast converter — fresh, active dry, and instant yeast.
- Baker's percentage — multi-flour formulas, preferments, and hydration.
- Ingredient substitutes — 700+ swaps with ratios.
- Kitchen timer — more than one browser timer, with sounds.
- Recipe to grocery list — an aisle-sorted list from a pasted recipe.
The tools directory also includes Recipe to FairPrice in Singapore. It matches a pasted recipe to FairPrice products. You open the product and tap Add. CookBank does not fill the FairPrice cart.
What it doesn't do
- The free browser tools do not create an account and do not keep a recipe library. A recipe pasted into a tool page is not saved in CookBank when you leave the page.
- Recipe scanning, cloud sync, and AI features need an internet connection. Recipes already saved on the device stay available offline.
- AI extraction can be wrong. Review a scanned recipe before you rely on it. Nutrition figures and ingredient substitutions are approximations, not medical or dietary advice, and they are not a substitute for your own judgment on food safety or allergies.
- CookBank is not directed to children under 13, and it does not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
- CookBank does not receive or store your Apple or Google password.
- For a private recipe, titles, tags, photos, and some metadata stay readable so lists, search, and sync can work. Publishing a recipe makes it readable by design.
- CookBank does not change a recipe unless you do.
- The FairPrice tool does not add items to a FairPrice cart.
Pricing
CookBank has a free tier and paid subscriptions. Free use includes limited AI-powered features. Paid subscriptions are billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Cancel them in the device subscription settings. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google. This page does not list a dollar price. The upgrade screen in the app compares the current plan with the available options.
